The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles occupied by the Germans during World War 2. The first part of the display shows the effect of the occupation on the postal services on the Islands and includes Swastika overprints, Bigwood essays and the occupation printed stamps for both Guernsey and Jersey including original artwork, essays, proofs and the printed stamps. The second part entitled ‘some untold stories’ comprises mail to and from the Channel Island civilians who were imprisoned by the Germans in France and Germany with a number of these prisoners meeting their death in German penal prisons as the result of their brutal treatment.
