To say that the Pakistan Postal Authorities were not fully prepared for the introduction of decimal currency on 1 January 1961 would be something of an understatement. The hurried overprinting of existing stamps by Pakistan Security Printing Corporation and particularly Times Press produced a feast of varieties. But the real gems are the stamps locally handstamped in District Treasuries and post offices throughout the country. Rarely encountered by general collectors, largely ignored and totally misunderstood by Pakistan specialists, and certainly never mentioned in polite philatelic company, these are dismissed by Mr Gibbons as “outside the scope of this catalogue”. You have been warned!
