Subject:
The period covered in the display mainly focuses on the postal history of El Salvador from the 1780s, when the first postal markings were introduced, to 1867, year of issue of its first postage stamps. El Salvador was, at first, part of the Kingdom of Guatemala, a Spanish Colonial entity, and then of the Central American Federation before becoming an independent Republic. Relevant Pre-stamp material and related documents like Postal Ordinances and Mail Notifications have been included to show the postal evolution of the Salvadorian territory from Spanish Colony to Independent Republic. As El Salvador is seldom covered in philatelic publications, proofs from the first issues of El Salvador will be included as an appendix to give a broader view of the country's philately.
