The Christmas presentation with a difference – bring your wives, husbands and partners as guests. In the mid-1980s, an immense cache of envelopes containing all the correspondence for the period 1872 to 1913 was allegedly discovered in an estate outbuilding of the ruined mansion Edwinsford, near Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, and was soon dispersed through the philatelic market. This presentation is part of the challenging and rewarding gathering together of the postal history and other relevant material, enabling an evaluation of Sir James (Joe) Drummond and his wife, Madeline, and their place in the highest levels of British society, as well as family involvement with military service in India and in the South African War. Within the frames will be letters to the teenage Sir James Drummond expressing admiration and instructions to “burn this instantly” – fortunately he did not – and progress through letters to and from his wife, Madeline, as well as correspondence from Simla, India,
