This display illustrates the Postal History of Tuscany from the Ducal issue of 1 April 1851 to 31 December 1862. On 1 January 1863 new rates were introduced and a new postal law was extended to all the Italian provinces, ending the postal history of Tuscany. Tuscan postal history will be shown in three main sections: domestic Tuscan rates, mail exchanged with the old Italian States, as well as incoming mail, and mail exchanged in both directions with foreign countries beyond Italy. In each section, the following periods will be presented: the Ducal period, the period of the Provisional Government of Tuscany, and the Italian period up to 31 December 1862. On 1 January 1863 any differences between the Tuscan and the Italian postal rules ceased. The postal history of Tuscany will be described with many great rarities of Tuscan philately.
