The display commences historically with the first philatelic signs at the beginning of the 18th Century until the introduction of postage stamps in 1885 and highlight the philately of Monaco with its two offices, Monaco and Menton, with their respective French, then Sardinian, and then again French administrations. A selection will show most of the postmarks and cancellations used during this period of nearly two centuries, one that was also a busy period historically. The office at Nice used four successive Sardinian issues and, following the re-attachment of the County of Nice to France in 1860, French stamps were cancelled with Sardinian cancellations for a brief period of three months whilst awaiting the delivery of French cancellers. This study is displayed for the first time ever here in its entirety.
