Lot 795 THE RARE OCTAGONAL BOXED KINGSTON "SHIP LETTER"; 14th April 1879 EL (usual creases) from Jeremie, Haiti to Kingston with a pencil "5" charge and a very fine SL10 (3 years later than recorded; "rare") on the front, having a very fine 21st April Kingston c.d.s. on the reverse. Few examples known; mail was very seldom sent by private ship after 1870, hence the rarity of this mark. PHOTO
