Lot 85 THE RARE BOXED "Falmouth/SHIP LETTER" MARK; 5th June 1845 EL (very lengthy contents) from Bethlehem, Pa. to Mayhill with a m/s "Forwarded by Jordan & Brother, Philada., July 1 1840" on the reverse. On the front is a very fine strike of Falmouth's rare SL8 mark (Foster "Unique" - this example - but we have recorded one other, less clear, strike), with a v. fine matching "FALMOUTH/JAMAICA" c.d.s., m/s "via Spa. Town" and a fair "SPANISH TOWN/JAMAICA" c.d.s. An important Exhibition Piece.
