Jane Moubray FRPSL, is the author of ‘British Letter Mail to Overseas Destinations 1840 to UPU’. A member of the Royal for over 40 years, she has volunteered with the Expert Committee since 1979. The first and only female President of the RPSL, she shares some of her thoughts from a recent interview with the Curator. "I joined the Experts Committee I think it was 1979. I was in the hospital across the road and Ron Lee came to see me. And said, would I join? Would I do some work for the Expert Committee? And yes, I did do. I worked very hard for them for years and years and years. To begin with, you have to find your way about and when stamps… the patients come in we always check whether we’ve had them before. And so for a long long time I was checking the photographs and doing all the secretarial work to do with as necessary. And in those days we packed up the stamps and we stamped… put the postage stamps on them and everything to send them back. And it was a very very long time before I was allowed to write a certificate out. And you always remember the first certificate that you wrote… mine was a George V Half Penny. And for years I wrote out certificates and then I was asked to join the committee which was a great honour and there I’ve been ever since."
