Birthe King FRPSL has been a member of the Royal for 13 years. Chairman of the Membership and Representatives Committee (MARC) and the only current female member on Council, she shares some of her memories of collecting. “But then when you start displaying you choose something, you do research, you write it up, you mount it and you will take it to clubs and societies and talk about it. And then you might decide to move to exhibiting which is mainly competitive exhibiting where there are people who are qualified to judge and they give points and you get medals. A lot of very, very good philatelists display, they do not want to exhibit because they don't want the judges and things like that, and it costs money to exhibit as well. Others say “I want to exhibit”, “I want that gold medal”, “I want to have the best of that kind of exhibit”. So, it depends very much which kind of person you are. And so, I distinguish between collecting, displaying and exhibiting. They are three very different things but we are all philatelists.” Birthe King FRPSL
