The cover was handed to a Captain or Purser of the non-contract coastal steamboat Admiral at Boston, MA who carried
the letter to Saint-John, NB where it entered the New Brunswick mail system (May 12). The "STEAMBOAT" marking
was applied either in Boston, MA, Portland, ME or Eastport, ME. It went overland to Pictou, NS (May 14) and then by
the bi-weekly steamerS. S. RoJe to Charlottetown, PEI.

The "1/4" manuscript postage due is made up of the 11 V2d. for a letter carried between
201 and 300 miles and the 4V2d. postage inter-provincial rate to Prince Edward Island.
