Pll.ACHTIGE KOSTELOOZE ST ALEN A.AN DE l'AOVINOEll.SVUU:NtGJNGEN

Publibel postal stationary card, advertising f ree samples of liver paste to Scout units.
Sent from Oostende 16XI 1939 to Brussels.

The first "Publibels" were issued in 1933. Any company can make a request to Belgium Post for
such cards. The requester must provide text and pictures for the advertising wanted. Belgium Post
assigns the unique Publibel number to each design. Once the advertiser approves the layout of the
advertisement, the required quantity will be printed, still without postal value. The result is given
to Belgium Post, which adds the stamp imprint and other official text and markings, and
distributes the cards to post offices for sale to the public.

In 1938, the company Agniez Freres (Agniez Brothers) of Brussels issued two cards with
denomination 40 c, and advertisement for liver paste. The card comes in two languages. The
French card (Publibel 443) has the text "SUPERBES ECHANTILLONS GRATUITS AUX
SOCIETETS SCOUTS". The Dutch card (Publibel 444) has the text "PRACHTIGE
KOSTELOOZE STALEN AAN DE PADVINDERSVEREENINGEN". The text translates to
"Superb free samples to Scout units". In 1941 , the remaining stock was overprinted " l 0 c''.
