Designs were invited from the public and sifted by a committee of the Institute of Jamaica, the
colony’s pre-eminent cultural body, who made recommendations to the Governor.

three designs
featured buildings,
including their own,
based on etchings
or photographs.
These were signed
by the artist Claude
DeSouza (1900-52).
