Jamaica: Queen Elizabeth II Commemoratives.
Recess, De La Rue. Coronation, 2 June 1953. Perforation comb 13½ x 13.
De La Rue used two plates at a time, one above the other, to print 120 set printer’s sheets which
were then cut into 60 set post office sheets. The plate numbers in the margins are those of the head
plate followed by the frame plate. For example, frame plates 1A and 1B might be set to print together
with centre plates 2A and 2B, which would produce marginal plate numbers 1A-2A and 1B-2B.
The Jamaica coronation issue had four printings with eleven known combinations of plate numbers.
These two pairs of
plates would have
been used together.
Royal Visit, 25 November 1953.
Recess, Waterlow. Perforation comb 12½ x 13.
Waterlow borrowed centre plate 6, still
being used to print the 2d George VI
definitive, and combined it with a new
Queen Elizabeth frame plate numbered 1.
