On the 19tn January 1905 in thick fog, two passenger trains of
the Midland Railway company were in a collision with a third
train at Cudworth Station, Barnsley, killing seven people. The
above cover was posted in Hull and addressed to Syston on the
18th January and has the manuscript "FOUND ON
PERMANENT WAY/AT CUDWORTH AFTER ACCIDENT/
19.1.05". Struck at left is the double ring cancel BARNSLEY/I
struck after retrieval of the letter from the crash scene
