A Parcel Post label allocated to Dalrymple Station, Ayr which has been adapted
for use at the main office of Ayr. This is an uncommon occurrence as labels
were not permitted to be used at other offices without the express permission of
the regional Postmasters-General. Dalrymple station was a very small station
originally situated on the Ayr and Maybole Junction Railway before being
taken over by the Glasgow and South Western Railway. The station opened on
the 13th October 1856 and closed on 6th December 1954. No postal markings or
cancellations are known used from here
