Undelivered cover from Paisley addressed to Blantyre
on 23rd January 1860 with the manuscript endorsement
on the front of the envelope "Not Known by the
Messenger in Blantyre".
Before being forwarded to Glasgow on the 30th January,
the transit/arrival mark of the BLANTYRE STATION
Scots Local cancel was struck on the back in black ink
on the 24th January 1860
This mark is normally seen as a back-stamp; with just
two known examples of this cancel on the fronts of
envelopes cancelling the stamps, or in the case of postal
stationery, cancelling the stamp impression.
Known period of use: 31.1.1857 to 17.3.1860
