SWEDEN 1862-1866 THE LYING LION TYPE
The 17 Öre rate to Denmark and the 20 Öre rate to Norway
In a postal announcement dated 22 March 1866, the two new values of Lying Lion type were announced to be
available at the local post offices from 1.4.1866 (until 30.6.1872). The 17 Öre value was intended to supply for the
single letter mail rate to Denmark and the 20 Öre value was intended to supply for the single letter mail rate to
Norway. Pehr Ambjörn Sparre’s printing office engraved a new die without denomination, to be used for both
values 17 Öre and 20 Öre.
