The 1889 Provisional Surcharges
On 1 January 1885 the domestic Letter rate was decreased from 12 Öre to 10 Öre (in force until 31.5.1918).
To consume the surplus stock of 12 Öre and 24 Öre Circle Type stamps the Swedish Post decided the surcharge
the stock of stamps with 10 Öre. The 10:12 Öre provisional surcharges were announced on 13 March 1889 and
were released/sold at the local post offices from 1.10.1889 until 8.12.1889.
10:12 Öre Private Surcharge
On a private initiative a 10:12 Öre surcharge is recorded in a few usages. First domestic
Letter rate (10 Öre ≤ 15g in force from 1.1.1885 until 31.5.1918) from ÖREBRO‐
HALLSBERG 17.11.1890 to Stockholm. 10 Öre correct rate.
