The 10r was bisected to pay the< 300 miles rate in many cities through the life of the issue. No official provision was
made for them but they were nonetheless tolerated by some postmasters. Thrift and convenience account for the majority
of existing covers, although, from time to time, shortages of 5~ stamps may have occurred.
