2d Sterling (2s Scots) Ayr to Edinburgh per Scottish Privy Council (1689)
5d Sterling Edinburgh to London per Act of the English Parliament (1660)
11 Stuivers London to Rotterdam Thum and Taxis Post charge
The manuscript charge marks:
'pd:2d:pd; 5d' this Ayr to London charge of ld paid was probably applied at Ayr.
From Ayr to Edinburgh, the letter would have been carried by foot-post and
from Edinburgh to London by horse-post.
'pd 5d to Lond' was applied at Edinburgh to account to the London post office
for the Edinburgh to London charge.
XI' was the charge in stuivers applied on the Continent and paid by the
recipient in Rotterdam.
