The UPU had introduced specific colours for the ½d, 1d and 2½d values in 1884, but with this issue Sierra
Leone became the first colony to implement the Crown Agents’ proposed scheme of colours for all values.
Values up to 3d were on ordinary paper, with those from 3d upwards printed on chalky.
