Forgeries of Higher Values

Although all of the stamps in this design had the legend ‘POSTAGE & REVENUE’, the higher values were
primarily intended for fiscal use as there were very few postal services for which a 5s or £1 could be used. This
restricted usage led to only a very small number of genuine postally-used stamps being available to collectors,
so these values attracted the attention of forgers.

Forgery Genuine

5s Value. The forgery has poorly shaped letters and red-orange ink. The forgery has a residual postmark from the country of the
host stamp. The letters ...ANEMO... can be seen, but this place name has not been identified.

Forgery Genuine

£1 Value. The overall impression of the forged stamp is poor.
The most noticeable difference is the shape of the top serif of the £ sign.
