British Service between Khartoum and Kano: Imperial Airways and Elders Colonial Airways
9 September 1936. Letter from El Obeid, Sudan, to Freetown via Kano, Nigeria.
This letter travelled from El Obeid to Backstamped at Khartoum (11 Sep), Kano (17 Sep), Lagos (19 Sep)
Khartoum by train, where it waited for and on arrival at Freetown (23 Sep). Reduced to 75%.
the flight to Kano (WAS 33) which was
carried by Daedalus. This left Khartoum
on 16 September and arrived at Kano the
following day.
It then travelled to Lagos by train and on to
Freetown by sea. The first flight from Kano
to Lagos arrived 22 October 1936.
This west-bound letter from Sudan to
Freetown was carried on the Khartoum to
Kano route ten months before the Sierra
Leone post office accepted east-bound mail.
