William Wilberforce Birth Bicentenary
The (then) Yorkshire city of Hull is twinned with Freetown. The connection is that the renowned anti-slavery
campaigner William Wilberforce was from that area. In 1959 a Cinderella label was produced to mark the
bicentenary of his birth. Additionally a slogan postmark was used at Hull.
1 November 1959 - William Wilberforce birth bicentenary label and slogan postmark.
First day of second usage of slogan.
Two dies were used simultaneously at Hull in two periods. Parsons, Peachey & Pearson Ref. 284 was utilised
from 24 to 31 August 1959. The second usage from 1 to 19 November 1959 is PPP Ref. 286.
