Overprints on Revenue Issues 1897
1897 2½d Overprint on Threepence and Sixpence Revenue Issue.
Early in 1897 the letter rate to the United Kingdom was 2½d per half ounce, and the second keyplate stamps
had just been delivered to the Colony. However there must have been insufficient supplies of the 2½d value
due to its frequent use and the relatively low numbers despatched initially.
Right-hand half of overprint forme on the threepence value
Several constant varieties are found on the forme:
Stamps 13, 17, 18, 24 & 28 Square full stop
Stamps 9 & 20 Defective full stop
Stamp 15 Broken Large 2.
