Scouting Around the World Netherlands East Indies I Indonesia
Scoutin g came to the Dutch East Indies in 19 12, as a branch of the Netherlands Scout Movement.
Indonesia dec lared independence from th e Netherlands in 1945.
Today, Indonesia has more than 8 million Scouts and Guides; more than any other country.
The Fifth World Scout Jamboree took place in the Netherland s in 1937, and the
Dutch East Indies issued two stamps to honour the Jamboree. The public paid a
I2\12c surcharge for Boy Scout fund s for each of the Dutch Indies Jamboree stam ps.
An adverti sing machin e cancel with text "KOOPT JAMBOREE ZEGELS" (B uy
Jamboree Stamps) was used in Batavia (Jakarta).
Spec ially printed covers were also advertisin g the first DC-3 fli ght between the
Dutch East Indies and the Netherlands, and on the covers was printed
"GEBRU IKT JAMBOREE - POSTZEGELS I WERELD - JAMBOREE - 1937 -
NEDE RLAND" (Use Jamboree Stamps, World Jamboree 1937, the Netherlands).
Ova l cachets "First regular DC-3 fli ght service Indies - Netherlands" were used,
from Bandoeng, Batavia, Medan , Pal embang, Semarang and Soerabaja.
