Jamaica: Llandovery Falls, 1900 - 1901.
The two-colour Llandovery was printed from separate frame and vignette plates, which required slight
redrawing of the design. There were six printings invoiced between 4 July 1901 and 27 November
1903, a total of 15,715,440 stamps. It was issued on 25 September 1901.
Three frame plates and five vignette plates were used in different combinations. All plates were
numbered. On early plates, both numbers were at the lower left corner, where they often overlapped.
The number of frame plate 1 does not always show. This is not because it is an unnumbered plate
but because sometimes the frame plate did not print in the lower margin.
Frame plate 1, vignette plate 2.
Faint partial red frame
plate number 1.
Frame plate number clear.
No trace of the frame
plate number. None of
the red ink printing, for
example the positional
cross, has reached the
lower margin.
