      Overseas Rates
                                Cards Used for 3d Overseas Rate (1877 to 1879)

                            The 3d rate applied to cards sent overseas from 1 Apr 1877 until 31 Mar 1879.
                Jamaica joined the UPU on 1 April 1877 and there was a requirement to provide Postal Stationery cards.
            Insufficient time was available to order and obtain cards from De La Rue, therefore local printings were arranged.
                          4,701 3d cards of the two provisional types were printed but the split is unknown..

                                   Printed at the Kingston Penitentiary, issued April to June 1877.

                           This local printing was arranged at the Government Printing Works at Kingston.
                                      There were several printings from July 1877 into 1878.
