Jamaica Revenues: Unauthorised Postal Use Before 1887.
Revenue stamps were sometimes improperly used for postage before this was authorised in 1887.
3d Arms Customs stamp on Jamaica crested OHMS cover from Half Way Tree
to the Assistant Clerk of the District Court at Spanish Town, 1875.
Revenue stamps would have been easily at hand in a public office. But in spite of the OHMS and the very
official addressee, the rate for the 13 miles from Half Way Tree to Spanish Town should have been only 1d, so
the 3d paid here suggests a philatelic overfranking.
Half Way Tree:
17 November 75.
Kingston:
17 November 75.
Spanish Town:
18 November 75.
1½d Arms Customs and 1d revenue stamps on cover from Bluefields to Kingston, 1881.
The 2½d postage paid is not an obvious rate; in 1881 the inland rate was 2d for up to ½oz.
Bluefields: 29 April 81.
Kingston: 30 April 81.
