Samuel Type GB6 (Nicholson Type N16)
Type GB6 was in use between 1855 & 1862, and
was handstamped at Somerset House.
The Type was usually applied to the stamps of
Great Britain, however, it can also be found on a
limited number of Fiscals and Pineapples.
As well as the above two items, which were
not recorded by Samuel, the handstamp is also
known on the 1d, 2d & 4d values.

Up until early 1862, printing was carried out under the control of the Board of the Inland Revenue,
as a consequence imprimatur sheets were registered at Somerset House on 3rd October 1860.
De La Rue Archive Remainders
All Ex Swarbrick
Retained in the De La Rue archives for “specimen” purposes,
these three values were defaced with the diagonal pen stroke cancellation when the issue became obsolete.
