BAYNARD'S STATION/HORSHAM dated 16th
September 1901 with time 11.45arn. ·
The London, Brighton & South Coast Railway wished
to develop the Cranleigh Line in the 18~0 's. As the line
would cross the Baynard's Park estate, the then owner,
the 5th Baron Thurlow insisted as a condition of the sale
of the land, upon having a railway station to serve his
estate. Although there were no nearby settlements, the
station was built over a site of almost half an acre and
opened on the 2nd October 1865 and latterly would
serve as the "local" post office. The line was axed on
14th June 1965; the only Surrey line to fall under the axe
of the "Reshaping of British Railways"
Known period of use: 16.9.1901 only
