Bath Coffee House
                                         Piccadilly

                                      (1770s - 1838)
This house may be the Union and Bath Coffee House, Piccadilly used for
masonic lodge meetings in 1778. A George Barrington, pickpocket and
author, is said to have lodged at and made his quarters at the Bath Coffee
House, Piccadilly before he was sentenced to transportation in 1790. The
name Bath Hotel appears in directories from 1809 to 1839. The
proprietors identified are: Thomas Bland (1809- 1811); Sarah Bland
(1826); and L. Paine (1838).

A free front posted in London on 15th June 1838 addressed to Sir John
Lighton, Bart. at St. John's College, Cambridge and re-directed to Bath
Hotel, Piccadilly where it was re-stamped 18th on its arrival back in
London.
