II B. THE ONE ANNA & TWO ANNAS WATERCOLOUR STAMPS
II Ba. ORANGE &
VERMILION
In order to learn how
colors changed with
date it is necessary to
look at documents.
The earliest stamped
documents in the
exhibitor’s collection are
from 1884 and are on
plain papers, the new
size of revenue
documents not being
seen until 1885, not the
1896 listed in Ref 2.
The entire document is
shown at left where it
can be seen that the
uncut pair is an intense
orange or a vermilion.
Also the stamps overlap
one another, indicating
hand stamping, not
being typographed as
listed in ref 2.
Multiples of these early
stamps are difficult to
find. Whereas larger
multiples are easier, for
higher values.
