Apollo 11 (AS-506) Off To The Moon
The launch of Apollo 11 from the Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, Florida. The photo has affixed to it an ac-
tual piece of the Apollo 11 Command Service Module (Columbia). This pressure sensitive Kapton polymide tape
was part of the spacecraft's thermal protection subsystem. It was removed from the hull after recovery and kept by
0. W Nasse in August 1969. He was one of a dozen or more veteran Rockwell Space Division workers assigned to
Apollo 11 's post landing and safety recovery team.
