Apollo 10 (AS-505) We Are Close
As they came back around the rim of the Moon the two craft were 50ft (15m) apart, with Young captur-
ing the LM's progress on a colour television camera, another Apollo first. Final checklists completed, it
was time to fire up Snoopy 's descent stage engine, and the LM shrank away into the distance to trace an
invisible line above the lunar surface.
Snooopy swooped low before levelling out, the craters and boulders expanded into stark relief as they
made the first pass across the most probable landing spot for Apollo 11, Mare Tranquillitatis - the sea of
Tranquillity. 'I tell you we are low, we are close enough, babe .... Down there! The landing site!'
The bottom cover is signed by Jim Stafford.
