Out of sight, Scott placed a simple aluminium sculpture of a 'Falcon Astronaut' on the lunar soil, along
with a plaque commemorating the astronauts and cosmonauts who had lost their lives in the furtherance
of space exploration. Although this had been commissioned secretly from Belgian sculpture Paul Van Ho-
eydonck, on the understanding that no replicas were to be made, he subsequently advertised them for sale.
This offer was withdrawn under pressure from NASA, but the crew's reputation was further tarnished
when they were formally reprimanded for making a deal to carry unauthorised postal covers to the Moon.
Commander Dave Scott also postmarked the first ever cover on the Moon to mark the issue of the twin Sc
stamps denoting a decade ofU.S.A space achievement. The top cover is signed by Al Worden.
