Cancellations
Maltese Cross to Numeral Transition
Combined Maltese Cross and Numeral Cancellations
November 1845. Roslin, through Edinburgh, and Beauly, to Munlochy; then
forwarded to Dingwall. Adhesive likely canceled by Maltese Cross in Roslin.
Edinburgh *131* numeral cancellation applied in transit and dispatched by way
of Beauly to Munlochy. Readdressed and forwarded to Dingwall. Manuscript
“1”(d) due for forwarding.
Following the introduction of the numeral cancellation devices in 1844, some
smaller offices obtained the then-obsolete Maltese cross obliterators. Roslin
was not issued a Maltese Cross or an 1844-style numeral, but other
Roslin/Edinbugh Maltese Cross/Numeral combination covers are recorded.
