                                               28 - Tooting 40 - Acton

In 1844, the Maltese Cross obliterator was replaced by five styles of numeral cancellation devices, denoting the
region, office or clerk handling the mail. While most numeral cancellations are not particularly noteworthy, the
large number of devices issued and their long period of use led to a number of interesting or scarce varieties.
