Voter Objection Notice – Special Registration Rate
Voter objection notice. August 20, 1853. Norwich to Walpole St. Peters, Norfolk. Three plate 165 adhesives paying the
1d postage and the special 2d registration for this class of mail. “575” numeral cancellation of Norwich. Norwich and
Lynn datestamps on the reverse.
An 1843 Act defined a special process for voter notices. The sender would bring a duplicate copy to the
post office where it would be compared to the one to be posted. If a match, one would be mailed at the
current postage rate plus a special 2d registration fee. The duplicate would be stamped and serve as
proof that the notice had been sent.
