Main feature  

Posting in the Orange Free State  and  transit  to Cape Town  to  catch  
the  packet  to  the  United  Kingdom.  The  OFS  origin  is  denoted  by  the  
manuscript  '6'  in  green  black  as  evidence  of the  payment  of the  
internal  OFS  postage.  This  is  matched  by  the  single  packet  rate  of  ls  
Od. These  covers  are  rare.

This cover and the other two in this collection are three out of the eight known covers with Cape  
Colony rectangular  stamps of this period  and treated  in this way.  
A letter from the author  of the article  is overleaf for a fuller  description  of this cover which was  
carried  on the Roman to the United Kingdom  via  St Helena, Ascension  Island  and Madeira.
