FRAME 38 SWEDEN 1874-1895 THE OFFICIAL STAMPS LARGE SIZE
10 Öre surcharge on the 12 Öre and 24 Öre values
On 1 January, 1885 when the first inland letter rate was decreased from 12 Öre to 10 Öre, the need for the 12 Öre
value in blue and the 24 Öre value in yellow were heavily reduced. These values were both provisionally
surcharged with 10 Öre in 1889. Official stamps with surcharge were in use until the withdrawal on 30 October,
1910. Most of the surcharged Official stamps in this collection are from Lars Hedberg’s collection.
Second inland letter rate (20 Öre 16 ≤ 125 gram in force from 1.1.1885 until 31.5.1918), registered (20
Öre in force from 1.1.1885 until 30.6.1905) from STOCKARYD 15.7.1890. 4 x 10:12 = 40 Öre correct rate.
Official announcement mailed to Bograngen from the rural office in the county of Wermland,
situated in Karlstad, dated inside 4 November 1889. 10 öre surcharge on 24 öre yellow‐orange, paying
the first inland letter rate. The stamp was cancelled on arrival, BOGRANGEN 10.11.1889 (the left
postmark). Probably the postmaster noted wrong date in the postmark, changed the date and
postmarked a second time: BOGRANGEN 12.11.1889. (The folding of the announcement was practiced
for no specific purpose).
