SWEDEN 1874-1895 THE OFFICIAL STAMPS LARGE SIZE
50 Öre Type II (Perf. 13) Red
The 50 Öre value in perforation 13 Type II on cover, is arguably one of the rarest of all Swedish definitive stamps
to find used on cover ‐ known only in seven discoveries.
Second inland letter rate, insured from LINKÖPING 5.4.1893. 50 Öre paying 20 Öre as second
inland letter rate and 30 Öre as insurance fee (30 Öre up to 500 kronor in force 1.1.1883—31.12.1919).
Initially this inland letter was charged as a second rate letter from UMEÅ 4.4.1893, paying the second letter rate
20 Öre plus 92 Öre as insurance fee (92 Öre for 1000≤5000 kronor in force 1.1.1883—1.12.1919). 2 x 50 Öre + 10 Öre
+ 2 Öre = 112 Öre. Blue notation 10 Öre indicates postage due 10 Öre (Official Mail was not charged the 6 Öre
notification fee) which is equivalent with the difference between second rate (16≤125 gram) and third rate
(126≥250 gram). 10 Öre postage due has been paid by ”Vesterbotten County Chancellery”, adding a second 10 Öre
Official stamp (not cancelled) on the cover’s top right hand corner.
