Swedish Officers in the Prussian Navy 1854-1863 1856 By Sw. Captain on SMS Thetis, Buenos Aires, Argentina... ...to Christianstad, Sweden. Dated Oct. 1, 1856 by the Swede Hampus Claesson, writing to his parents. Sent by the Sw. Captain Sundevall, commanding the Prussian frigate SMS “Thetis”, which left Buenos Aires Oct. 1, 1856 heading direct to Danzig, Prussia. According to the letter content Captain Sundevall had also promised to forward the letter to the addressee. Content about that this rare possibility to send a letter to Sweden had occurred the day before and should not be missed. Also about that the next one to the UK is going to leave Buenos Aires in Nov. 1856. The Swedish 1 Lieutenant in the Sw. Navy Henric Promoted to st Ludvig Sundevall, 40 years old, entered 1854 the Rear-Admiral in Prussian Navy as Captain of “Corvette” at Danzig. 1863 and later In 1856 he was promoted to Captain of “the Sea” and left the Prussian the command of the Prussian frigate SMS “Thetis”. service. uu uu uu uu uu uu The frigate “Thetis” was built 1846 at James Graham Yard in Devonport, UK. Sold to Prussia Jan. 12, 1855. She was 60 m. long, 14 m. wide an the weight was 1550 ton. Sail area was 2370 sq.m and max speed was 15 knots.
