War against Norway 1814 1814 Letter to Sw. frigate in the sea blockade of Norway... ...by Swedish Royal Mail as prepaid letter with listing nr “14”, dated Jul. 18, 1814 at st Nygårdsängen (outside Vänersborg) by 1 Lieutenant Otto Henric Nordenskjöld, 1 Life st Grenadier Regiment. Addressee was Lieutenant in Sw. Navy Carl Reinhold Nordenskjöld onboard frigate HMS Eurydice. The sender writes to his brother and tell that they are waiting for the order to attack Norway and “norrbaggarna” (the Nor-wegians) have not yet shot any bullets ! 3 skilling banco for conveyance distance 12-20 Mihl (128.26-213.77 km) for a letter -1¼ lod (=16.6g.) May 1, 1807 - Dec. 31, 1818. In 1814 Lieutenant C. R. Nordenskjöld became adjutant of the squadron head of the Swedish maritime blockade of Norway, his cousin Lieutenant-Colonel Otto Gustaf Nordensköld. The blockade of southern Norway started in spring 1814. The frigate Eurydice (built 1785 at Karlskrona Naval Yard) had 26 24-pound canons and 14 6-pound canons. She participated in the attack on Hvaler (Hval Islands) and the conquest of Kråkerøy and Fredrikstad. Sw. forces advance- ments in red (28/7 instead of 28/8). 1814 By Sw. Royal Mail Upsala - the Western Army’s FPO... ...as prepaid letter with listing nr “18”. Dated Aug. 1, 1814 in Upsala (got their postmark 1819). The letter was to Clas Levijn, auditor of the Regiment of Skaraborg, part of General Sandels brigade. The postal rate to the Field Post Office attached to the 1st Army Corps (Western Army) (located at Strömstad then Fredrikstad, Norway) was the same as to Strömstad. Field Postmaster was J. A. Rydberg. 6 skilling banco for conveyance distance 50-70 Mihl (534.42-748.18 km) for a letter -1¼ lod (=16.6g.) May 1, 1807 - Dec. 31, 1818.
