Internal Postal Rates set by the 1695 Act of the Scottish Parliament
1706 - Edinburgh to Stranraer 3 Shillings Rate
Several books state that Stranraer Post Office opened in 1765. This letter provides
evidence of a post office existing at that town in 1706. The letter was charged three
shillings Scots from Edinburgh which is the correct rate for the 50 to 100 Scots miles band
under the 1695 Act of the Scottish Parliament.
