Three Halfpence Scarlet
The scarlet three halfpence stamp was one of the initial series issued on 1 May 1938. It paid the postcard rate
to the United Kingdom until 31 December 1939. The postal rate changes of 1 January 1940 precipitated the
1½d changing colour to mauve as the UPU required the basic letter rate stamp to be red.
