Panguma Panguma
Panguma was a Postal Agency in Kenema District in the western mountains.
It opened on 1 May 1899, and closed in 1908. It re-opened on 1 March 1927,
but closed again on 1 January 1931. A third opening was on 1 April 1949 after Hangha
which it remained in business until independence in 1961. Outbound mail
was always carried by road to Hangha and then on the railway to Freetown. All
postmarks are very scarce, the ones prior to 1931 especially so.
18 August 1928 - Registered letter from Panguma to Old Hill, Staffordshire, UK.
Backstamped at Hangha (21 Aug) and Freetown (23 Aug). Also struck with Panguma boxed registration handstamp.
Unused postcard from a series first known used in 1920. Postcard Type LIS63460, published by Lisk-Carew Brothers, Freetown.
