The First Victorian Keyplate 1872 to 1896
Plate Variety
From 1876, four years after the keyplate was first used, a small flaw appeared. This is a small break in the base
of the box that contains the value on Row 2, Stamp 6. The variety varies in size from a distinct gap to a slight
nick, or sometimes not visible at all, depending on the degree of ink applied to the plate.
