9th World Jamboree - The Jubilee Jamboree,
               Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, 1957.

To ce lebrate the Jubilee of the Movement and the Centenary of its Founder, B-P. , a combined
Jamboree, Scouters' lndaba and Rover Moot was he ld in Sutton Park - a beautiful natural park
of 2,400 acres. Thirty three thousand Scouts from 90 countries camped for 12 days in weather
whi ch ranged from a heat wave to a storm which fl ooded parts of the huge camp site. Many
thousands more took the opportuni ty to camp in the surrou nding countryside.

Opened by HRH The Duke of G loucester, visited by Her Majesty the Queen and the Prime
Mi ni ster, Mr Harold MacM illan, and c losed by the World Chief Guide, Olave, Lady Baden-
Powell, it was the first Jamboree held in England to have its own commemorative postage
stamps. One spec ial aspect was the overwhelming hospitality offered to the participants by the
people of the UK, both before and after the event.
